Clear communication assists with productivity, trust, and increasing your bottom line. The type of communication either increases or hinders your employee’s productivity and efficiency. At Nightingale Resolutions, we work to encourage open and clear communication. After working with a number of organizations we developed these questions to assist leaders to be effective in their communication with their employees and their communities.

Below are questions to use as a guide as you pass along information to others.

Guiding Questions for Clear Communication:

  1. What topic are we communicating?
  2. Why are we doing this or what is the reason?
    • What about this is important for us?
    • What is the desired outcome?
    • What would be the outcome if we did not do this?
  3. How will this affect our organization? (Internal and external)
  4. What is the preferred timeline for this change or implementation?
    • What are the hard deadlines, if any?
  5. Who will be affected by this and how? (Internal and external)
  6. In what ways are we going to communicate? (Verbal, Email, Handout)
    • When are we communicating this?
  7. How do we follow-up to make sure it was communicated?
    • Who will be communicating this?
  8. Who made this decision? Is the decision final or is there room for flexibility?
  9. How do we track progress?
